About Deana Luchia

Although I've lived in a number of different countries, London is home. It's here that I write novels, non-fiction, short stories, screenplays and magazine features alongside my wonderful canine colleagues, Dottie and Pippa.
I've been creating stories for as long as I can remember – well before I could read – and I’m thrilled that I have been lucky enough to make a career out of words.
My first proper writing job was in Tokyo, writing reviews in an expansive office that overlooked the Imperial Palace. My next job was writing features on fruit and vegetable exports from a tower block in South London. It was here that I made the life-changing decision to go freelance and get my first dog, Alfredo. A few years later, I moved to Malta, where I worked for numerous magazines, writing features on social issues, food, children and interior design, between school runs and dog walks.
Since then, I’ve completed an MA in Professional Writing, taught hundreds of creative writing workshops, and had my first book published: Happy As Harry, a self-help book narrated by my much-missed wonder dog, Harry. I've also self-published a novel, entitled God & Dallas, a heartfelt and funny story about mother-daughter relationships, and the importance of friends.
When it comes to creating fiction, I love writing uplit – my favourite genre as an author. There's always at least one dog in every story - Great Danes, Chihuahuas, Border Terriers and mixed breeds that cavort across my chapters, bringing comfort and laughter to characters struggling to make sense of the world. Dottie and Pippa hear all my stories before anyone else and have given me their seal of approval of my latest canine creation, Bertie.
Whether you love fiction or non-fiction, dramas or comedies, dogs, cats or parrots, I hope you enjoy reading my work.
